Pentagon Releases New Batch of UAP Videos and Historical Files, But Clarity Remains Elusive

The United States Department of War (DOW) has released a new collection of materials related to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), marking the fourth official release under its Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE). This latest batch, made available on July 10, 2026, includes previously unseen military videos and historical documents, some dating back to the 1940s.

According to Sean Parnell, the Assistant to the Secretary of War for Public Affairs, the new files can be accessed on the DOW's website, WAR.GOV/UFO, with further releases expected on a rolling basis. However, as with earlier collections, the newly released videos are often described as ambiguous, featuring small, blurry objects captured using multi-sensor electro-optical targeting capabilities from fighter jets, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and even civilian aircraft.

Among the notable entries in this release is a series of historical images from NASA's 1996 STS-80 mission. These photographs, taken by astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia, depict a small triangular or cone-shaped object in low-Earth orbit. The DOW's description notes that during the STS-80 mission, astronauts captured a series of images of this unidentified object, with one photograph showing it near the Earth's limb. The nature of this object remains uncertain, although it has been suggested that similar observations from the mission may have been ice particles outgassed from the spacecraft, which could produce optical effects in low-light conditions.

Another video included in the release, labeled DOW-UAP-PR030, shows two areas of contrast moving through the sensor's field of view. The first object enters from the bottom right and exits from the top, while a smaller object enters from the top and exits from the bottom. The unusual shape of the first object has led some to speculate that it could be a sensor artifact, a phenomenon previously noted in other videos released by the DOW.

Additionally, the release features DOW-UAP-PR108, a video reportedly collected over the Western United States in 2020. This footage has drawn comparisons to the well-known "Tic Tac" imagery captured in 2004 by F/A-18 pilot Chad Underwood off the coast of Baja California. Despite these similarities, the new video, like others in the PURSUE collection, lacks sufficient context to provide clarity on the object's nature.

As the DOW continues to unveil UAP-related materials, the public remains eager for definitive explanations. However, the latest release underscores the ongoing challenges in interpreting these phenomena, as many of the images and videos provoke more questions than answers.
